Barcelona is currently ranked 11th in the Copenhagenize Index list of the most bike-friendly cities around the globe, surpassing top European destinations like Paris, Vienna, and Berlin.

Barcelona offers perfect cycling conditions.

Barcelona is a great place to cycle. It has a mild, sunny Mediterranean climate, over 200km of bike paths, and flat terrain with less than 2 percent gradient.

The city also has 22350 bicycle parking spots and 1187 underground spots. Its striking architecture creates an interesting background. Water fountains are found throughout the city. The average annual temperature in the city is 18 degrees Celsius, and the sun shines almost all year. You could not ask for more.

It’s possible to see more in a shorter time.

Barcelona’s major attractions can all be viewed by bicycle. You can get around the city easily by metro or bus, but why spend your time underground or in traffic when you can ride around on a bike?

Although walking is great, it can be time-consuming and not practical if you have only a few days to explore Barcelona. You will quickly discover that a 3-hour bicycle tour of the city can show you more than a weekend on foot.

There are many rewarding options available.

Barcelona is a diverse city. The same goes for its beautiful cycling routes. These routes will take you from Barri Gotic’s narrow lanes to the Eixample grid layout. They also take you to La Rambla, a people-watching paradise, to the Mediterranean Sea, where wide bike lanes are lined with palm trees.

Begin your exploration in Placa de Catalunya to marvel at Gaudi’s ingenuity. Next, head north on Passeig de Gracia to find two of Gaudi’s most significant creations, La Pedrera and Casa Batllo.

You can also explore the beautiful Parc de la Ciutadella, easily crisscrossed with cycle lanes or pedal up to the charming Park Guell. Although the ride is difficult, the view of the city makes it worth it.

The maritime route offers stunning views of the seafront, starting at the Mirador de Colomb (at the base of La Rambla) and ending at Port Forum. It includes iconic sights like Barceloneta beach, Port Olimpic, the Poblenou industrial district, and the new Parc del Forum.

It’s smarter to rent a bike than ever.

Bicing is a local bike-sharing system that is available to residents. This is the only problem with cycling around Barcelona. However, the Donkey Republic, a Danish platform that offers a similar experience for visitors to Barcelona, has the good news.

It’s easy to rent a bike in Barcelona with smart, app-controlled bikes. Download the Donkey Republic app to your smartphone and use the in-app mapping to locate the nearest bike to you. Once it is unlocked, you can start exploring the Mediterranean city relaxed and leisurely.

Get out of the city and connect with nature.

You can escape the hustle and bustle of city life by cycling to Collserola. It is Barcelona’s largest park. There are many trails to choose from, but the most popular and easiest is Carretera de Les Aigues. This flat path runs along Tibidabo with stunning views of the city.

Montserrat is Catalonia’s spiritual mountain, so if you feel adventurous, go there. It is a challenging climb but spectacular for cyclists. The stunning scenery and breathtaking mountain views make it a great choice.
