Sibiu is a charming and compact city in Romania. It’s full of wonderful things to do. It is, without doubt, one of Transylvania’s most popular attractions and possibly the most beautiful and culturally rich city in Romania. The former European Capital of Culture boasts a vibrant, year-round event calendar and a beautifully preserved Old Town dripping in Baroque architecture.
Its restaurants offer everything from delicious Black Angus beef to vegan cheesecakes. There are many options for dining, from fine dining to casual dining, and you can choose from traditional Romanian cuisines or international specialties.
My latest visit to Sibiu was when I spent most of the time looking at menus in fine restaurants and trying out all that the local cuisine has to offer. These are my top recommendations for Sibiu restaurants, out of all the fancy ones I tried.
Jules is a relaxed and refined restaurant located in Sibiu’s historic centre. It is known for its delicious food and wonderful selection of wines. Although the menu is varied, it has a French twist with mouthwatering dishes such as Salmon Quiche, Duck Leg Confit and Chevre Chaud.
Must-try from the menu: Tuna/salmon en Papillote, roasted vegetables and tuna; Colette – a delicious and filling salad of grilled shrimps with grapefruit and grilled shrimps; Tarte Maison – a lovely mascarpone cake topped off with fresh strawberries.
Max has an impressive wine list, a beautiful interior, and excellent Italian cuisine. The restaurant is located in an elegant 14-century mansion in the Old Town. It also has an outdoor garden perfect for alfresco dining on warm summer nights. You’ll find an incredible selection of seafood and pasta dishes.
Must-try from the menu: Chicken breasts on hot stones with aromatic butter, Penne al pesto and chicken soup with parmesan pancakes. Dolce Della Grazia – a delicious dessert made with biscuits, coffee and Nutella – or try something more special like the Sorbetto di Limone – a lemon sorbet made with vodka and sparkling wines.
Pardon Cafe & Bistro Sibiu
Pardon is one of Sibiu’s most loved restaurants. It serves European cuisine in a warm, inviting atmosphere resembling an old-fashioned craftsman’s workshop. This museum-like establishment is located on Sibiu’s most beautiful street. Each of its individual decorated dining rooms is brimming with antiques.
It’s like eating back in time with musical instruments, antique writing machines, and flea market find. The vibe is still fresh and creative, with friendly staff and excellent Jazz playing in the background. There’s also a lively open-air patio overlooking the city’s medieval watchtowers.
There are many tempting options for food, including soups, steaks and pasta. You can also find a wide range of German beers and whiskeys and delicious cakes and other sweet treats to brighten up your day.
Must-try from the menu: Duck confit and a slice of their decadent chocolate cake.
Benjamin Steakhouse & Bar
Benjamin Steakhouse & Pub is renowned for its high-quality meats cooked in a special Josper oven grill on wood charcoal. It’s no surprise that Benjamin Steakhouse &Bar ranks first on TripAdvisor’s Top Sibiu Restaurants. The elegant American-style steakhouse is located in the heart of the city. It uses only the best quality Black Angus beef and offers a wide selection of premium Romanian wines.
The Premium Cheeseburger is a must-try from the menu. It’s made with gorgonzola and home-meat Black Angus beef.
